Microsoft Project Online Is Ending

On September 5th, 2025, Microsoft officially announced what many project management professionals had anticipated for years: Project Online is being retired. All existing tenants will be supported until September 30th, 2026 but the solution will not be available beyond that date.

Introducing OnePlan: Microsoft’s Recommended Replacement

At OnePlan, we’ve been preparing organizations for this transition for years. We are proud to be a 5-time Microsoft PPM Partner of the Year, the co-creator, alongside Microsoft Engineering, of the Microsoft Planner Accelerator, and the recommended Microsoft PPM solution to replace Project Online.

Our deep partnership with Microsoft ensures that OnePlan is a future-ready platform purpose-built to extend Microsoft’s evolving PPM strategy.

Why OnePlan Is the Best Replacement for Project Online

While Planner provides a collaborative work management foundation, OnePlan extends those capabilities into a true enterprise PPM solution. With OnePlan, organizations get:

  • Portfolio Management – Select, prioritize, and monitor the right mix of investments
  • Financial Planning – Track budgets, forecasts, and actuals to manage costs effectively
  • Resource Management – Optimize talent and capacity with forecasting and allocation tools
  • Strategic Alignment – Link initiatives to OKRs and business outcomes for measurable impact
  • Scenario Modeling – Run what-if analyses to adapt portfolios to changing business conditions
  • Governance & Oversight – Apply structured governance, gated workflows, and audit-ready controls

This means organizations migrating from Project Online can expect continuity of core portfolio capabilities with added value and future-ready enhancements.

Built on Years of Microsoft Partnership

OnePlan’s journey with Microsoft began with our collaboration on the Project (Planner) Accelerator. What started as enhancing Planner with basic portfolio capabilities has evolved into a comprehensive enterprise PPM platform.

Our partnership demonstrates our commitment to extending Microsoft’s platform capabilities rather than replacing them. Today, OnePlan represents the natural evolution from the Accelerator framework to a full enterprise solution that organizations need for serious portfolio management.

Deep Integration with Microsoft Technologies

OnePlan is designed to work seamlessly within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Our solution integrates directly with Planner, Microsoft’s modern work management hub, and builds on it with advanced enterprise-grade capabilities.

You can explore our OnePlan for Project (Planner) Accelerator to see how we enhance Microsoft Planner with capabilities such as governance workflows, resource and financial planning, reporting dashboards, and portfolio modeling.

Looking Ahead

As Microsoft transitions its PPM strategy toward Planner and AI-powered experiences, OnePlan stands ready as your enterprise-grade, roadmap-ready alternative. Together, we can help you align strategy to execution and prepare for the future of work.

Our partnership with Microsoft isn’t just about replacing what’s ending—it’s about building what’s next. The Crawl → Walk → Run journey we’ve shared with Microsoft’s Power Platform continues, and OnePlan is positioned to help organizations run at full speed in their portfolio management capabilities.
