With Microsoft’s recent announcement that Project for the web and Roadmap will be retired in August 2025, transitioning to Microsoft Planner and retiring Microsoft Project for the web, many organizations are taking a closer look at how they manage work, projects, and portfolios across Microsoft 365. As a trusted Microsoft PPM partner, OnePlan is here to help Microsoft customers understand the transition and offer a clear path forward.

What’s Changing?

In November 2023, Microsoft announced the transition to a unified Planner experience, combining features from Microsoft To Do, Planner, and Project for the web into a single, AI-powered work management solution. This Project for the web retirement is just a continuation of the transition announced in November 2023.  As part of this transformation:

  • Project for the web and Roadmap apps will be retired starting August 2025.
  • Existing Project for the web plans will be redirected to the new Planner experience.
  • Teams integrations for Project and Roadmap tabs will be deprecated.
  • The Project Power App will be renamed to the Planner Power App.
  • Premium features like Gantt chart, sprints, goals, task dependencies, and Copilot integration will now be delivered through Planner Premium.

While the new Microsoft Planner promises a more cohesive user experience, many organizations are wondering, “what happens to the projects we’ve built in Project for the web and the accelerator?”  Rest assured, there is no migration or licensing change required.

How OnePlan Can Help

OnePlan offers an enterprise-grade Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) solution built on the Microsoft ecosystem. We complement and extend Microsoft Planner with the depth and capabilities that many Project for the web users have come to rely on. Here’s how OnePlan addresses the transition:

Continuity for Project for the Web Users

  • OnePlan seamlessly integrates with Project for the web and Planner and Project desktop, allowing customers to transition without losing their project history, structure, or reporting fidelity.
  • OnePlan can help customers who built solutions on the Project Accelerator or customized Power Apps to update their solution or enhance it with OnePlan’s fully supported, enterprise-ready planning modules.

Portfolio Visibility & Governance

OnePlan enables centralized visibility across projects, programs, and portfolios, including data from Project for the web, Planner, Project desktop, Project Online, Azure DevOps, and more. If you need road mapping capabilities, OnePlan provides road mapping along with prioritization, OKR alignment, and what-if scenario planning which are not native to Planner.

Resource Management & Financials

  • OnePlan provides robust capacity planning, resource forecasting, and financial tracking.
  • Helps PMOs and functional managers maintain governance while empowering team autonomy.

Configurable Work Management

  • With OnePlan, teams can continue to work in Planner, Azure DevOps, or even Project desktop, while leadership gets one connected portfolio view.
  • Offers enterprise templates, enterprise custom fields, workflows, reporting, and integration through Power Platform, ensuring maximum flexibility and scalability.

Partnering with You & Microsoft

As a Microsoft Preferred and award-winning PPM Partner and Power Platform solution provider, OnePlan works closely with Microsoft to:

  • Guide customers through this transition with readiness assessments and business strategy workshops.
  • Offer scalable solutions for organizations needing more than what Planner Premium provides out-of-the-box.
